Night of the Living Deadlift

Join University Recreation in its first annual power lifting competition: Night of the Living Deadlift. Show us your max effort on the BIG 3, Bench Press, Back Squat and Deadlift. Winner earns the right to be titled “Strongest on the Palouse” and will be awarded a trophy. This is a raw power lifting meet in which a belt, chalk, and knee sleeves are permitted. This Competition will be based off of relative strength using the Wilks Formula. Thus, there will be no weight divisions. However, there will be categories for male and female lifters. Also, as this is Halloween themed, feel free to lift in your Halloween costume (optional) in which the best costume gets a separate award. Registration opens on 8/20/2018 and closes 10/14/2018. Intro to Olympic Weightlifting

Intro to Olympic Lifting is and 8 week course that meets twice a week. You will learn the fundamentals of the clean, the jerk, and the snatch. Along the way, you will also be instructed on how to perform auxiliary lifts to compliment the Olympic lifts. A foundation of squatting, pressing & lifting is also included in this strength & conditioning program. This course is taught by a USA Weightlifting certified coach. Intro to Powerlifting at the Chinook

Introduction to Powerlifting is a small, group-based 8 week training that is focused on strength adaptations though a strategically designed linear periodization program created by one of our nationally certified personal trainers. The focus of the program will be geared towards three main compound lifts, the bench, the squat, and the dead lift. Each individual in the group will work at their own ability to achieve strength goals in each lift in a safe and strategic manner based on their own percentages. Early in the program, you will be tested for your maximum strength output in each lift, and once again at the completion of the 8 weeks.
 
 

Intro to Strongman Training

Intro to Strongman is an 8-week course that meets once a week and don’t let the name fool you, Strongman is open to all genders of all fitness levels. The course will introduce you to functional strength lifts associated with Strongman and Strongwoman competitions around the world. You will learn the fundamentals of Deadlift, Farmer’s Carry, Log Press, Yoke Carry, Atlas Stones, and Circus Dumbbell Press. While the class meets only once a week, it is intended to give you the knowledge necessary to train for these lifts on your own, in addition to class time.

Intro to CrossFit is an 8 week course that meets twice a week. Through the 16 classes, you will be taught the fundamental CrossFit movements, perform a Workout of the Day (WOD) and begin tracking strength numbers.
