Ready to sign up for CrossFit but are worried that you don't know the movements or aren't in shape yet? CrossFit Jump Start is just for you. Jump start is 5 days long, intended to immerse you in the world of CrossFit, teach you the movements, and give you the foundation for success in our regular classes. To participate in CrossFit, you will need a Chinook membership. At the end of the Jump Start you should be ready to jump in to the regular CrossFit Classes by purchasing a CrossFit Pass and join the rest of the WSU CrossFit Community! Upon graduation on that Friday of class, if you have attended at least 4 days that week, you will receive your CrossFit shirt, and will be ready to roll your Jump Start experience right in to a CrossFit Pass!

Intro to Strongman Training

Intro to Strongman is an 8-week course that meets once a week and don’t let the name fool you, Strongman is open to all genders of all fitness levels. The course will introduce you to functional strength lifts associated with Strongman and Strongwoman competitions around the world. You will learn the fundamentals of Deadlift, Farmer’s Carry, Log Press, Yoke Carry, Atlas Stones, and Circus Dumbbell Press. While the class meets only once a week, it is intended to give you the knowledge necessary to train for these lifts on your own, in addition to class time.

Intro to Olympic Weightlifting

Intro to Olympic Lifting is and 8 week course that meets twice a week. You will learn the fundamentals of the clean, the jerk, and the snatch. Along the way, you will also be instructed on how to perform auxiliary lifts to compliment the Olympic lifts. Intro to Powerlifting at the Chinook

Introduction to Powerlifting is a small, group-based 8 week training that is focused on strength adaptations though a strategically designed linear periodization program created by one of our nationally certified personal trainers. The focus of the program will be geared towards three main compound lifts, the bench, the squat, and the dead lift. Each individual in the group will work at their own ability to achieve strength goals in each lift in a safe and strategic manner based on their own percentages. Early in the program, you will be tested for your maximum strength output in each lift, and once again at the completion of the 8 weeks.

In this class you will learn and practice basic mindfulness techniques that have been shown to help reduce stress and increase happiness and well-being. The techniques include mindfulness of breath, walking meditation, mindfulness of body sensations, and loving-kindness meditation. Each class will consist of step-by-step instructions, a period of guided practice on the meditation technique, followed by a question and answer session. The course is taught by Cill Richards, PhD, a professor in the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. She began meditating in 1973 and has been practicing mindfulness meditation since 2003. WSU CrossFit presents Palouse Throwdown V! The event will take place on Saturday, October 6 at 10:00am on the Chinook Student Center. We will be mainly using our indoor facility, the Chinook Student Center. So, expect more traditional CrossFit workouts with pullups, toes to bar, wallballs, etc. We also have an outdoor turfed area and a track nearby, so sled pushes and sprints are also a possibility. This is the Rx Men's division. If signing up in this division, you should be able to complete the following: Double Unders Chin over the bar Pullups Toes to Bar Squat cleans at least 135lbs Snatches at at least 95lbs Deadlifts at at least 225 Championships will likely include heavier barbells, higher skilled gymnastics movements, muscle ups and/or rope climbs. WSU CrossFit presents Palouse Throwdown IV! The event will take place on Saturday, October 6 at 10:00am on the Chinook Student Center. Based in past feedback, this year's competition will be same sex partners again! This event will be different from previous Throwdowns. We will be mainly using our indoor facility, the Chinook Student Center. So, expect more traditional CrossFit workouts with pullups, toes to bar, wallballs, etc. We also have an outdoor turfed area and a track nearby, so sled pushes and sprints are also a possibility. This is the Rx Women's division. If signing up in this division, you should be able to complete the following: Double Unders Chin over the bar Pullups Toes to Bar Squat cleans at least 95lbs Snatches at least 75lbs Deadlifts at least 155lbs Championships will likely include heavier barbells, higher skilled gymnastics movements, muscle ups and/or rope climbs. Ready to sign up for CrossFit but are worried that you don't know the movements or aren't in shape yet? CrossFit Jump Start is just for you. Jump start is 5 days long, intended to immerse you in the world of CrossFit, teach you the movements, and give you the foundation for success in our regular classes. To participate in CrossFit, you will need a Chinook membership. At the end of the Jump Start you should be ready to jump in to the regular CrossFit Classes by purchasing a CrossFit Pass and join the rest of the WSU CrossFit Community! Upon graduation on that Friday of class, if you have attended at least 4 days that week, you will receive your CrossFit shirt, and will be ready to roll your Jump Start experience right in to a CrossFit Pass!

Purchasing the CrossFit membership will allow you to attend an unlimited number of Washington State University CrossFit classes.A Chinook or SRC membership is required to purchase a CrossFit Pass. Pass holders may attend classes in facilities where they are members; SRC members may attend classes at Down Under, and Chinook members may attend classes at the Chinook. The CrossFit pass does not include membership or provide access to facilities for non-members. Note: If you would like to participate in CrossFit for the entire semester, you will need to purchase the Cross Fit pass for both Session 1 (August 20-October 14) and Session 2 (October 15-December 14).
