You will work on the foundational movements of CrossFit while increasing your knowledge of fundamental CrossFit exercises and increasing your work capacity. Intro to CrossFit is an 8 week course that meets twice a week. Intro to Strongman Training: Tier 1

Intro to Strongman is an 8-week course that meets once a week and don’t let the name fool you, Strongman is open to all genders of all fitness levels. The course will introduce you to functional strength lifts associated with Strongman and Strongwoman competitions around the world. You will learn the fundamentals of Deadlift, Farmer’s Carry, Log Press, Yoke Carry, Atlas Stones, and Circus Dumbbell Press. While the class meets only once a week, it is intended to give you the knowledge necessary to train for these lifts on your own, in addition to class time.
 
 

Olympic Weightlifting: Tier 2

The Tier 2 Olympic Lifting course is an 8 week course that meets twice a week that is reserved for those who have already completed the Tier 1 class, or those who have experience with the Olympic Lifts (Clean, Jerk & Snatch). Those wishing to join the Tier 2 course need to show proficiency in each of the lifts as basic technique will not be taught in this section. Rather, participants will be put through intermediate and advanced training programs (depending on the level of the group as a whole) based on the Olympic Lifts in this course. Along the way, participants will also be instructed on how to perform auxiliary lifts to compliment the Olympic lifts, and mobility adjustments to make positions easier to get into. A foundation of squatting, pressing & lifting is also included in this strength & conditioning program. This course is taught by a USA Weightlifting certified coach. Power Lifting: Tier 2

The Tier 2 Power Lifting course is a continuation of the Tier 1 course and is a small, group-based 8 week (16 session) training that is focused on strength adaptations though a strategically designed linear or undulating periodization program created by one of our nationally certified personal trainers. The focus of the program will be geared toward using intermediate and advanced techniques to enhance the three main compound lifts, the bench, the squat, and the dead lift. Each individual in the group will work at their own ability to achieve strength goals in each lift in a safe and strategic manner based on their own percentages. Early in the program, you will be tested for your maximum strength utput in each lift, and once again at the completion of the 8 weeks.
 
 

Spartan Training at the Chinook

Spartan Training is a strength and conditioning program designed to teach fitness fundamentals that have been used by military, law enforcement, firefighters and first responders! This fitness class will focus on high intensity body weight cardio, calisthenics, endurance training and body conditioning. This class will emphasize kettlebells, climbing and battle ropes, gymnastics, mobility drills, stair climbs, buddy carries, speed drills, and sled pushes. All designed to develop teamwork and camaraderie within the group. This course meets on Monday's & Wednesday's at 3:30pm in the Chinook building room B30. UREC Fitness Instructor Training (FIT) EXPRESS

Learn the basics of group fitness instruction with UREC's Fitness Instructor Training (FIT) program. In order to qualify for the FIT Express course, you must have a current national certification and prior instruction experience. Aational certification includes a general (Group Fitness from ACE, AFAA, etc.) and/or format-specific certifications (Les Mills, Zumba, XPole, etc.). This two-day course will cover theoretical content and hands-on practice. It will take place on July 16 and 17, 4:30-7:30 PM at the Chinook. This training is required to work for UREC and prepares instructors for taking the ACE Group Fitness Instructor certification exam. After successfully completing the training and the subsequent shadowing process, participants can audition to lead group fitness classes for UREC. Registration fee includes the manual, textbook rental, and enrollment into fitness classes for shadowing. Please note that completion of this course does not guarantee employment.
