Become a Fitness Instructor

Are you interested in becoming a UREC Group Fitness Instructor? If so, our Fitness Instructor Training (FIT) course is your first step to teaching group classes and inspiring active, healthy living. The next course begins on January 22, 2018 , registration opens December 1, 2017. 

Our FIT course is a combination of 6 weeks lecture and 12 week total practical application that will cover the basics of group exercise instruction including:

  • Anatomy
  • Physiology
  • Kinesiology
  • Exercise Selection
  • Choreography
  • Injury Prevention
  • Cueing and much, much more!

Express Fitness Instructor Training: December 2, 2017 9 am-6 pm at the Chinook Student Center

If you hold a current national certification and experience instructing, you are eligible to register for this course! National certifications include general (ACE Group Fitness, AFAA, etc) or format specific (Les Mills Body Pump, INSANITY, Aqua Zumba, etc). This one day course will cover theoretical content and hands-on practice in instructing. After successfully completing the training and the subsequent shadowing process, participants can audition to lead group fitness classes for UREC. Registration fee includes manual, text book rental, and enrollment into one fitness class of your choice as a shadow. UREC Express Fitness Instructor Training (FIT)

Learn the basics of group fitness instruction with UREC's Fitness Instructor Training (FIT) program. In order to register for this Express FIT course, you must have a current national certification and experience instructing. This includes general (ACE Group Fitness, AFAA, etc) or format specific (Les Mills Body Pump, INSANITY, Aqua Zumba, etc). This one day course will take place on December 2 from 9 am -6 pm at the Chinook Student Center and will cover theoretical content and hands-on practice in instructing. This training is required to work for UREC and prepares instructors for taking the ACE group fitness instructor certification exam. After successfully completing the training and the subsequent shadowing process, participants can audition to lead group fitness classes for UREC. Registration fee includes manual, text book rental, and enrollment into one Session I fitness class of your choice as a shadow. Please note that completion of this course does not guarantee employment.
